Serving nearly 30,000 students each year through a rich array of high-quality programs, the University of Utah tops our ranking of the best online schools in the state. Fully asynchronous courses at the university allow students to learn on their own schedule. Distance learners can earn either a bachelor's or master's degree in fields such as biomedical informatics, business administration, electrical and computer engineering, and nursing. All students at the U, regardless of how they study, enjoy free access to online tutoring in a wide variety of subject areas. The university also provides personalized writing and research assistance, 24/7 technical support, and career and mental health counseling services. In addition, student success advocates can help learners hone study and time management skills and connect students to additional resources available at the university. To apply to an undergraduate program, prospective learners must submit high school transcripts and ACT or SAT scores. Admission requirements vary across graduate programs, though most require a bachelor's degree with at least a 3.0 GPA.

Admissions Breakdown
Acceptance Rate Insight
79% of students were accepted during the 2020-2021 school year. Sometimes schools with midrange acceptance rates have higher standards of entry but are still accessible to many students who apply.
Retention Rate Insight
89% of full-time students stayed to continue their studies the following academic year. These students started in Fall 2019 and returned in Fall 2020.
Graduation Rate Insight
67% of students graduated out of all full-time, first-time students who began their studies in Fall 2014. Keep in mind many students who enroll are not typically first-time students, as most are adult learners. Therefore, the number of first-time students is traditionally low.
