A major center of education and research in Albuquerque, UNM ranks as the largest four-year university in the state, serving more than 26,000 students annually. UNM also ranks among the best online colleges in New Mexico, with a distance education program that oversees undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs. Online students choose from more than 20 programs, including dental hygiene, elementary education, liberal arts, Native American studies, and space systems engineering. UNM also hosts several "managed" online programs, which offer an even higher level of flexibility. These programs feature several annual start dates and accelerated, eight-week courses. The school's managed online programs include graduate tracks and bachelor's completion programs, with options such as business administration, construction management, and Chicana and Chicano studies. Managed online programs are taught by the school's on-campus faculty, and students pay the same fixed tuition rate whether they reside in New Mexico or another state.

Admissions Breakdown
Acceptance Rate Insight
51% of students were accepted during the 2020-2021 school year. Sometimes schools with midrange acceptance rates have higher standards of entry but are still accessible to many students who apply.
Retention Rate Insight
61% of full-time students stayed to continue their studies the following academic year. These students started in Fall 2019 and returned in Fall 2020.
Graduation Rate Insight
36% of students graduated out of all full-time, first-time students who began their studies in Fall 2014. Keep in mind many students who enroll are not typically first-time students, as most are adult learners. Therefore, the number of first-time students is traditionally low.
